It’s Durban’s turn to face zombies

2013-09-27 00:00

RUNNERS will take on zombies — or maybe the other way round — in a fun Zombie Run in Durban in November.

All participants in the event have to enter as a runner or a zombie. The game is set on five kilometres of pre-existing trail, over varied terrain with six added tasks or obstacles that contestants must complete.

The run is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and has been hosted with great success in both Cape Town and Gauteng. The Durban event is on November 30.

Runners will carry three “lives” in the form of flags and will depart from the start line in waves of 100 runners. Once all their lives have been taken — by the zombies, of course — they are considered “turned” but are permitted to complete the course regardless. This is not a timed race and zombies can register for one of two roles.

And for any participant who wants to step out of line, beware: marshalls and the zombie horde will be there to keep you in check.

Funds raised will aid the Endangered Wildlife Trust, Carnivore Conservation Programme and FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
