It’s all systems go for Greater Edendale 10?km

2014-11-12 00:00

THE 8th annual Greater Edendale 10 km race takes place this Sunday at the FNB Wadley Stadium in Georgetown, Edendale.

Last year, about 2 000 participants, including children, took part in the fun race.

Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) and Greater Edendale Race Organising Committee convener, Macdonald Chitja said, “We are very pleased with the continued success of this community event. We are seeing more and more school children getting involved and we aim to keep up the pace with road-running development in our local communities.”

The organisers hope the initiative will unite schools in different communities.

The first three over the finish line for both the men’s and women’s race will be rewarded with prize money and every finisher will take home a medal and race T-shirt.

The entry criteria stipulates that participants must be at least 15 years old or older to run the 10 km race.

“Temporary licenses will be available at the registration desk at a cost of R10 for those runners who are not licensed members of running clubs. Nine-year-olds and less will run a 5 km fun race,” Chitja added.

The local race organising committee will be at the FNB Wadley Stadium taking entries on Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm and registration will also be open on the day of the race from 5 am to 7 am.
