It’s back to mayor for Ragavaloo

2011-08-01 00:00

RICHMOND Combined School has bid farewell to Andrew Ragavaloo, their principal of 13 years.

Ragavaloo retired from teaching, but will still be involved in the community when he takes up the position as mayor of the Richmond municipality.

An action-packed concert was held at the school on Thursday, July 28, with pupils from every class presenting a non-stop chorus line of poems, speeches and high energy dance routines, all aimed at wishing him well and thanking him for his tenure as principal.

In his final address, Ragavaloo told the assembled pupils he had been a naughty boy at school, so when he became a teacher he was always one jump ahead of those wanting to be naughty, as he knew all the tricks.

Ragavaloo grew up in Dundee and taught in several schools in KwaZulu-Natal before he and his wife, Jenny, settled in Richmond.

This is Ragavaloo’s second spell as mayor, having served from 1996-2000, during the time when many dramatic changes took place with the transition to the first democratic government.
