It’s over — celebrity couple call it quits

2009-10-03 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Musician Danny K and model Lee-Ann Liebenberg have broken their engagement.

Since they became engaged last year, they’ve barely spent any time together.

Their work obligations, locally and abroad, placed much pressure on their relationship, according to a statement that was released to heat magazine jointly by J23 Management on behalf of Danny K and Head Models on behalf of Liebenberg.

Melinda Shaw, editor-in-chief of heat, said on Thursday that the local celebrity couple met shortly before the magazine’s launch and often made their news pages.

She said their on-again-off-again relationship was quite tumultuous from the beginning. However, at their engagement party, which Shaw attended, it “looked like it was going to work”.

Shaw was shocked when she heard this week that the couple’s relationship of six years has come to an end. “I didn’t believe it,” she said.

On Thursday, Gavin Koppel, Danny K’s father, said: “As you might imagine, he [Danny] is going through a difficult time.”

According to Koppel, the family is also sad about the fact that the relationship didn’t work out.

Danny K proposed to Liebenberg in September last year on a horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park in New York.

The full story will be in next week’s heat, which will be on sale on Tuesday.
