It’s time for Dundee to show off

2013-07-17 00:00

THIS year’s Dundee July is expected to break previous records with more than 10 000 people expected to attend the event.

So socialites and designers who missed their chance to showcase their talents at the Durban July need not fret because the Dundee July Horse Racing is set to take place on July 20 at the Dundee Race Track.

The event has been running for eight years and is popular for its glitz and glamour, providing a platform for top local designers and encouraging up-and-coming designers to showcase their talents.

KwaZulu-Natal Fashion Council is sponsoring a R30 000 prize for the overall winner.

The main theme of the race is to promote sport in rural communities and encourage youngsters to be more involved in sport, especially after the first black jockey to win the Vodacom Durban July was crowned two weeks ago.

Dundee July Racing organiser Sandile Qwabe said the race is a joint venture between KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport and Recreation, uMzinyathi District Municipality and Endumeni Municipality, and aims to help grow the economy of the area and local municipalities.

Qwabe said the race is expected to break the record for attendance and participation as people from as far afield as Mpumalanga and Lesotho have shown interest in supporting the event.
