Jealous lover’s orgy of torture

2008-01-25 00:00

A Cinderella Park man and woman are fighting for their lives in Northdale Hospital after they were severely tortured through the night on Tuesday.

A man who had allegedly just been released from police custody burnt, stabbed and hacked Thandokwakhe Ximba (21) and Nompilo Hadebe (in her twenties), accusing them of having an affair. Hadebe and the attacker are lovers who had been living together.

The vicious torture session took place at the attacker’s home in Cinderella Park.

Neighbours were gripped with fear and shock over the horror events. “We heard the screams of a man and a woman, but we could not do anything.

“We are afraid of the man because he is violent,” said one, who spoke on condition of anonymity. It is alleged that the man previously assaulted Hadebe.

Ximba’s girlfriend Slindile Ngubane (20), who was forced to watch the horrific assault, appeared traumatised when The Witness spoke to her. She said she looked on helplessly as her boyfriend screamed from the burns and gashes.

“I was terrified. He was unstoppable. Both Ximba and Hadebe were screaming with pain, but he seemed to be enjoying himself. He melted plastic crates on to their naked bodies, telling my boyfriend to confess that he was having an affair with [Hadebe].”

On Monday, Hadebe had asked Ngubane and Ximba to accompany her to visit her boyfriend (the attacker), who was being held for possession of dagga at the Mountain Rise Police Station.

“We all went to visit, but the police would not allow us to see him. They told us that he would appear in court the following day.” Ngubane’s boyfriend went to court on Tuesday to “support a brother”, but he did not see him in court.

Ngubane said the nightmare began on Tuesday evening after a prayer meeting at the attacker’s home.

“He locked the door and slapped my boyfriend on the face. He told my boyfriend that he should not deny that he had an affair with Hadebe, because she had confessed.

“When I asked Hadebe what was happening, she told me that he had forced her to confess that she had an affair with my boyfriend. He tied both of them up with an electric cable and continued to assault them.”

Ngubane said the assaults on both Ximba and Hadebe continued. “When my boyfriend did not confess, he stabbed him with a knife and hacked him with a bush knife”.

Ngubane managed to escape after six hours of horror and called the police.

The police came and arrested the man.

Inspector Joey Jeevan said two cases of attempted murder were opened.
