Juju: Appeal deadline has passed

2011-11-25 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — A Free State ANC Youth League official yesterday said he is under the impression that his national leaders have appealed against their suspensions, but this could not be confirmed immediately.

Asked if league president Julius Malema and his five co-accused have lodged their appeal, the ANC Youth League’s Free State secretary, Lebogang Mogoera, said he had understood that an appeal has been lodged.

However, Malema, who delivered a lecture in Bloemfontein last night, did not directly address the matter.

Malema said: “We are going to be suspended. We do not care. We are not about to be sell-outs. We are ready for anything.”

The deadline to appeal ended at midnight last night. If the leaders do not appeal, they remain suspended.

ANC spokesman Keith Khoza could not be reached immediately to confirm this.

Malema, ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, deputy president Ronald Lamola, treasurer general Pule Mabe, secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi were found guilty and handed suspensions by the ANC’s national disciplinary committee two weeks ago.
