KZN ANC ‘regrets’ blocking EFF

2014-01-16 00:00

THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday said it regretted the weekend’s incident involving its members who blocked their Economic Freedom Front counterparts from handing over a house to a destitute family in Nkandla.

“As custodians of the Constitution, we will always respect basic freedom and that is why we regret what happened in Nkandla over the weekend where our members are alleged to have blocked EFF members,” provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala told a media briefing.

Zikalala said the ruling party wanted free political activity in the province where all parties campaigned freely.

In an attempt to deal with the conduct of party members in Nkandla, Zikalala said the regional leadership in Musa Dladla has been asked to furnish a report on what happened that day.

He also revealed that all the party’s regions have been requested to ensure that “such unfortunate incidents do not happen again in our province”.

“When police finalised the matter or if the report we get in the progress suggest steps must be taken, they will be taken,” Zikalala said.

Meanwhile, the party said it was all systems go for the provincial manifesto launch and anniversary celebrations in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday, when 20 000 people are expected at Harry Gwala Stadium.
