KZN Christian Council: Douglas Dziva appointed chief executive

2011-11-09 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council (KZNCC) has appointed Dr Douglas Dziva chief executive officer. He has served as acting CEO since February.

The KZNCC is a provincial fellowship of churches and church-based organisations founded in 1996 as part of a restructuring process initiated by the South African Council of Churches after the first democratic elections in 1994.

The KZNCC aims to help the churches of KwaZulu-

Natal develop a Christian response to the many challenges of this province, especially HIV and Aids, gender-based discrimination and issues around land ownership.

Born in Zimbabwe in 1965, Dziva has lived in South Africa since 1993. He holds an MA degree from University of Zimbabwe, with honours in religious studies.

He completed his doctoral degree in 1996 at the University of Natal, his thesis being a “Critical examination of patterns of research in the academic study of African traditional religion with reference to methodological considerations”.

Although he was born and grew up in a Lutheran family, the nature of the work of the KNZCC has meant that his outlook has become increasingly ecumenical, experiencing and offering solidarity to the various member churches of the council. — Witness Reporter.
