KZN Inland: Hendrie, Erwee stamp their authority on Free State clash

2013-02-08 00:00

THE in-form duo of opening batsman Nic Hendrie and number three SJ Erwee stamped KZN Inland’s authority on day one of the CSA Provincial Three-day Competition match against fourth-placed Free State at the Maritzburg Oval yesterday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the 12th-ranked Inland posted 294 for five off the 96.4 overs in the day, with Hendrie hitting his second ton at first-class level just two days after his 21st birthday.

In his 115, the elegant left-hander stroked seven fours and hit one six.

Hendrie shared in a 181-run stand for the second wicket with Erwee, who scored 83 in close to four hours out in the middle, in which he hammered 11 fours off 149 deliveries.

Vasili Orros, Free State’s first-class debutant, took two of the wickets to fall.

Inland will need to build on a great first day when play resumes at 9 am today.

The T20 encounter is on Sunday.
