KZN Inland against the ropes

2011-01-15 00:00

THERE was no escape for KZN Inland yesterday as Boland set themselves up for the knockout punch, which should come at the Maritzburg Oval today as this Provincial Challenge three-day match enters its final phase.

In short, Inland need another 331 runs to win with nine wickets still alive and if nothing else materialises, the unpredictable weather may be the home side’s greatest friend.

However, in terms of the batting available to them, Inland can still win this game.

Yesterday Inland were 42 for one at stumps. All five Inland’s top batsmen were trapped in front as eight of the day’s 12 wickets fell in that fashion, while another feature of the Inland innings was that wickets fell in batches of two. At Chatsworth, KZN Coastal and Griquas is heading for a draw. The 40-over matches are tomorrow.
