KZN Inland come back with crushing win

2013-03-18 00:00

AFTER being outplayed by an innings and 76 runs inside two days in the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition match, the T20 match was brought forward a day. In a stunning turnaround KZN Inland beat North West by 38 runs to win with ease and earn a bonus point in the process at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Saturday.

North West asked Inland to bat on Saturday and the Maritzburg-based lads rattled up 152 for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs, with the top-order all coming to the party.

SJ Erwee (25 off 16 balls with three fours and a six) and Brad Moses put on 30 in four overs for the first wicket before Moses and captain Kyle Nipper (21 in 21 balls with one four and one six) scampered 36 runs for the second wicket.

Moses (43 off 46 balls, one four and two sixes) and big-hitting Mathew Hulett then added 64 for the fourth wicket, while Hulett was last man out for a 37 off 23 deliveries that included five fours and a six.

In marked contrast to the role he played in the Potchefstroom team’s dismissal of Inland for a paltry 26 in the three-day match, Cliffe Deacon was put to the sword.

In reply, North West opener Rassie van der Dussen top-scored with 38 but it was never going to be enough in the wake of Nipper’s four for 15 from 3.2 overs, the last eight batsmen only managing 30 runs between them.

Other results - at Chatsworth: Namibia 124 for five in 20 overs (J Kotze 39*; K Maharaj 3-7). KZN Coastal 125/2 in 18.3 overs (C Bowes 57*, C Chetty 42*). KZN Coastal won by 8 wickets with 9 balls remaining.
