KZN alliance partners vow to root out corruption

2010-04-19 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal chapter of the ANC-led alliance committed itself to co-operation in the struggle to uproot corruption in different spheres of South African society, and to promote unity among its allies.

This decision was taken after a two-day summit of the Provincial Executive Committee members of the ANC, the Congress of SA Trade Unions, the SA Communist Party and the SA National Civics Organisation at the weekend.

The summit took place against a background of public spats among alliance leaders over issues such as lifestyle audits and a lack of service delivery by the ANC government.

“The summit agrees that any form of corruption should be regarded and construed as counter- revolutionary. Thus we must engage jointly, and as different organisations, in a campaign to uproot corruption wherever it exists.

“The summit agrees that the discussion on the deracialisation of the economy should constitute an integral part of the alliance’s political programmes,” the organisation said in a joint statement.

Service delivery, and the need for government to be accountable, was also discussed.
