KZN boasts healthy bank balance

KWAZULU-NATAL (KZN) ended its last financial year with a healthy bank balance and marginal under-spending of R13,9 million.

The province, with the other provinces, receives an equitable share of the national budget each year, apart from raising some of its own revenue.

Some national government departments spend some of their budget in KwaZulu-Natal. These amounts are apart from the provincial budget.

Listed below are the KZN provincial government’s planned spending items over 2013/14.

• R89,8 billion — Total department spending

• R11,5 billion — Infrastructure

• R37 billion — Education

• R28,6 billion — Health

• R8,1 billion — Transport

• R3,6 billion — Human settlements

• R2,9 billion — Agriculture

• R2,3 billion — Social development

• R1,8 billion — Economic development

• R1,3 billion — Public works

• R1,2 billion — Co-operative governance

• R685 million — Provincial government

• R621 million — Office of the Premier

• R417 million — Provincial Legislature

• R381 million — Sport and recreation

• R172 million — Community safety

• R63,3 million — Royal household.
