KZN feed miller Nutrex sold

2007-12-14 00:00

Independent feed mill Nutrex, based at Umlaas Road, has been sold to a Dutch concern owned by the De Heus family.

CEO Co de Heus said the company is looking at increasing its presence in South Africa and were looking at a number of other opportunities in the country.

“South Africa offers excellent opportunities and with the Nutrex-KZN mill running at maximum we are planning to introduce more milling capacity to the independent farmers in the province,” De Heus said.

The decision by the Nutrex shareholders to sell their shares to De Heus has no impact on the mill’s operations and structure that in time will be known as De Heus Nutrex.

“Day-to-day operations will continue as normal, and we’re looking forward to exciting times ahead,” said MD Ted Waters.

The focus will remain on producing feed for the dairy, pig and poultry sectors, said De Heus.

“We at De Heus indeed pride ourselves on being a genuinely independent feed mill that produces approximately 2,7 million tons of animal feed throughout the world,” the statement said.

The company boasts a reputation for excellence that is well known to their customers and it has a reputation they value highly.

“Our intention is to continue to produce animal feeds of quality and to build on the reputation that Nutrex has, for being a small mill, that is big on customer satisfaction,” De Heus said.

“Our philosophy of producing quality feeds supported by high levels of on-farm technical support, is very much in line with the Nutrex philosophy and we are pleased to be associated with a company such as this.”

Waters said the development will result in valuable synergies because of the depth of knowledge, and high levels of technical expertise in the De Heus company.

“I am convinced that the independent farmers stand to gain hugely,” he said.
