KZN fields huge x-country team

KWAZULU-NATAL Athletics have announced a team of 195 athletes to compete in the in the SA cross country championships in Potchefstroom on September 14.

The mammoth team covers the full spectrum of ages from 10 to over 70 and encompasses both women and men.

Pietermaritzburg-based Slindile Chili (Junior), Gill Tregenna (70-74), Janene Carey (40-45) and Cary Ann Smith (30-34) are amongst those expected to be in medal contention, although they will have to handle the rarefied altitude if they are to succeed.

Lungisa Mdedelwa is the province’s top senior competitor for the 12 km event, with Thubelethu Phaku still competitive enough to run the 12 km open championship.
