KZN land claim may leave out rightful claimants, warns Cosatu

2014-09-08 00:00

COSATU in KwaZulu-Natal has warned about the single land claim to be lodged by the Zulu traditional leaders, saying it might leave out some rightful claimants.

“People who have the right to lodge land claims may find themselves being with limited space to lodge the claims,” provincial secretary Edwin Mkhize said yesterday.

Mkhize made the comments following the labour federation’s provincial executive committee held last week.

This comes in the wake of an announcement by King Goodwill Zwelithini that traditional leaders would lodge a combined land claim through the Ingonyama Trust for land lost by his nation in KZN and in some neighbouring provinces.

Mkhize also said Cosatu wanted the government to urgently engage the traditional leaders on the land claim they planned to lodge.
