KZN on track for Mangaung

2012-10-29 00:00

THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is on track and within time frames for the party’s elective conference in Mangaung in December, provincial spokesperson Senzo Mkhize said yesterday.

Commenting on reports that ANC branches were running out of time to hold branch general meetings to nominate party leaders, Mkhize said most branches in KZN had held these meetings.

Mkhize said the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) had just completed an assessment of the process, which showed that branches in KZN were on track.

He said a few branches had had problems attaining their quorum, but there was still time for these meetings to be held. All such meetings must be completed by the weekend of November 24 and 25, when KZN holds its Provincial General Council (PGC).

Mkhize said that once all branch meetings were completed, the party’s national audit team would visit KZN to conduct an audit into how the meetings were held. The team would check that all procedures were followed.

Mkhize said they would look at attendance registers, at names and signatures to see whether the meetings were quorate, and whether those who should have attended were at the meetings.

The branches would consolidate their leadership choices and positions on policy issues at the PGC.

“These will be the positions on leadership and policies that KZN will be taking to the Mangaung conference,” said Mkhize.
