KZN teams: Selections under way

2010-09-28 00:00

SELECTIONS for the KwaZulu-Natal Inland Cricket teams to take part in the various age groups at National Weeks during December, has been under way over the past few weeks.

At both the U19 which will also include U17 players and U15 levels, the Northern KwaZulu-Natal schools at Pionier in Vryheid, the Central Districts at Howick and Urban schools at Carter, have selected squads that include the four best batsmen, four best seamers, the two best spinners and the best wicketkeeper.

The U15 players from the four major cricketing schools in the area — Maritzburg College, St Charles, Hilton and Michaelhouse — have also had a trial where the eight best batsmen, eight best bowlers, four best spinners and two best wicketkeepers have been selected.

The U15s will meet for a series of trials games on October 10 where a squad of 17 players will be monitored over three weeks before the final 13, to attend the PG Bison U15 week in December, are selected.

There is one difference in the U19 — U17 age group as the players from the four all-boys schools will be chosen from their performances at Michaelmas Week.

Those who are selected from the smaller urban schools and country districts will attend net trials at St Charles on October 8, from which 24 players will be selected to have trial games on October 10 together with those from the all-boys schools.

The U13 players from the various districts have been involved in a series of practice matches at schools in Maritzburg over the past weekend.

The teams of 13 from all the age groups will then be announced in early November to take part in the National Weeks.
