KZN’s best police stations win awards

2011-09-14 00:00

SCORES of police officers attended the Provincial Commissioner’s Annual Good Performance Awards held at the Coastland Convention Centre yesterday, where members were recognised for outstanding performance.

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, commended officers for their commitment to society.

“Today marks a special day in that our officers are acknowledged for their selfless efforts in serving and protecting our citizens, a job a few very brave men and women do,” he said.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, rewarded stations and units in Kwa-Zulu Natal for their good performance during the past financial year.

Ngobeni paid tribute to police officers — men and women — who lost their lives in the line of duty and members observed a moment’s silence.

Categories included best station, best captain, best cluster and specialised units.

Best stations in crime prevention were Magudu, Nkandla, Kwadabeka and Nongoma.

Detectives at the farmstead of Evatt and in Port Edward, Dundee and Port Shepstone won awards for crime investigation, while best overall stations were Dalton, Ntabamhlophe, Dundee and Nongoma.
