KZN’s own investor network

2010-05-25 00:00

KWAZULU-NATAL now boasts its very own investor network — an initiative aimed at sparking “solid” investment projects in the province.

Officially launched in Durban recently, the KZN Investor Network’s partners include heavyweights such as Trade and Investment KZN (TIKZN), the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Durban Investment Promotion Agency (Dipa), Tourism KZN and the department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The network was established by the Stedone Group, a civil engineering, building and development group based in Hillcrest.

The group is also involved in turnkey project facilitation.

KZN Investor Network’s business development manager, Marc Maurel, told The Witness that the initiative represents an aggregation of a host of investment opportunities in KZN.

“News of the opportunities comes from various government departments, TIKZN, Dipa and parastatals. It is the brainchild of a director at Stedone, James Arnott.

“Our reasoning is that if you look after our province, our province will look after you. It’s really about attracting investment to KZN.”

Maurel hopes to be able to tour 21 countries over the next 24 months to promote the province, although this will depend on funding.

He said the network will communicate with stakeholders via its website (www.kzninvestor.co.za), a monthly e-newsletter, as well as a bi-annual magazine.

The website will list the latest projects within the network.

Networking functions will be held on an ongoing basis.

Maurel said the network has been registered as a Section 21 company.

“This will ensure transparency.”

He added that their partners have been instrumental in launching the initiative.

“Our partners have been paramount in getting this off the ground. They made themselves available to guide us in the right direction.”

Maurel stressed that the stakeholders believe the province is the “number one investment destination in South Africa”.
