Karkloof Trailblazer to test riders

MOUNTAIN BIKING

IT is time for the Mr Price Karkloof Trailblazer taking place from the Karkloof Country Club tomorrow morning.

Participants can choose between the 45 km Trailblazer at 9 am or the 25 km Weekend Warrior Extravaganza starting at 10 am.

If there is one thing the Karkloof area is known for, other than farming, it’s the flowing, twisting, fast and challenging MTB tracks that lace the countryside. The Trailblazer tests riders to the limits of their technical riding ability on fast burmed tracks that are maintained to perfection.

The 25 km course comprises dirt road and easy jeep track riding that takes in all the scenic views of Karkloof Valley. It is a user-friendly route suitable for first timers and all ages.

Registration and late entries open between 7 am and 9 am. The event is fully Roag-administered and timed by Mr Price timing (don’t forget your chip). For more info contact Andrew van Rensburg at 082 925 2014 or log on to www.karkloofclassic.co. za.

• December 4 sees the annual Sani Transfrontier Epic taking place from Sani Pass Hotel, Underberg. The two races distances are the 42 km to the top or 26 km turning at the first border post. The race starts at 9 am. Registration open from 7 am. More info at www.roag.co.za

• The Hewlett Packard Urban Rage MTB Assault Race is set for the weekend of December 11 to 12 at uShaka Marine World in Durban. The event moves into its third year and continues to evolve as one of Durban’s showcase events with a distinct flavour.

An exciting introduction this year is the two-day format to allow participants to make maximum use of the purpose-built course. Saturday’s events include the new Enduro, open to individuals and teams of two or four.

The Enduro caters for individuals over a two-hour format and teams over a four-hour format and will be the perfect opportunity for the competitive riders to get in tune with the course ahead of Sunday’s all-out racing for the grand Super-Cat title.

In the afternoon’s Urban Jump Expression Session, those who dare will jump off a ramp into the canal.

Sunday sees the Teams of two (Cool Cats) and Individuals (Alley Cats) competing in a heat format to qualify for the finals. This is a high-energy, spectator-friendly event with easy access points throughout the course.

Riders can expect a course similar to last year, which comprised nearly 40 obstacles over the two-kilometre route. There will be some minor logistical changes and a few surprises thrown in, including some more water obstacles.

The ever-popular Kitty Cat Race, especially for the youngsters (U10) takes place first thing on the Saturday morning.

Entries are now open on www.urban rage.co.za

MULTISPORTS

The final event in the Muddy Buddy Series takes place at Giba Gorge tomorrow morning.

This is the only team event in SA where moms and dads can race side-by-side with their kids.

Teams of two start with a run then an MTB ride, finishing with a monster mud pit and the famous obstacle course. Showers, food and bike shop all available at Giba Gorge. More information on www.muddybuddy.co.za or contact the race office at 031 564 4062.
