Kearsney Hockey club celebrates a ‘grand year’ for men and women

2013-11-21 00:00

KEARSNEY Hockey Club’s men’s and women’s teams can reflect on a solid season, building on last season’s success and climbing a few rungs on the ladder in the various leagues.

Club chairman Sam Marsden was more than happy with the performances this time around as players were selected at national and provincial level, while all the teams were more than a match for the opposition.

“It’s been a grand year for us,” she said. “We can currently boast three senior SA players, five SA Schools players, six KZN Raiders players, two KZN Mynahs players and a whopping 30 players in KZN Schools sides.

“For these players, it’s reward for their dedication to the game and their club, not forgetting the extra work they put in to ensure their success.”

Two of the club’s teams have gained promotion into the next league, with another narrowly losing out. Being coached by high level national and international coaches ahead of next season sees the club riding the crest of a wave and its a case of enjoying the ride and reaping the rewards.

“Hockey in this area needs input from those at the top of the game,” said Marsden. “They inject new ideas and skills into the club, which sees young players feeding off the experienced campaigners, all which benefits the club as a whole,” said Marsden.

The club thanked their sponsors for the season, grateful for their support and promoting the game.
