Kearsney look for revenge

2011-05-14 00:00

A CLASH of the province’s two top hockey sides takes place today when Kearsney host Maritzburg College .

Last year College won narrowly at home and this year Kearsney will be determined to give a good showing on their new water-based Astro. It would be foolhardy to predict an outcome in this tight, fiery encounter — both teams have played Hilton, DHS and Clifton and not much can be deduced from the results. DHS was subjected to a 5-0 beating by both College and Kearsney. Kearsney beat Hilton 2-1, while College has played Hilton twice, winning 3-2 and drawing two all. Against Clifton, College won 4-0 and Kearsney 5-2.

Westville, who are hosting Hilton, had a welcome change of goal-scoring opportunities against DHS last week, putting eight goals into the net after struggling to score any this year. The visitors will have renewed vigour after their win against Michaelhouse last week and draw against College.

They go into the game as favourites, but Westville may be hard to beat if they score early. Michaelhouse will be determined to beat DHS in Durban after losing to Hilton. St Charles play Clifton in Durban in a certain tussle. The hosts have the ability to surprise their opposition, while the Saints will do well to come home with a win.

Fixtures (home side first): Kearsney v Maritzburg College; Westville v Hilton; DHS v Michaelhouse; Clifton v St Charles
