Kearsney old boy to coach SA juniors

2013-03-19 00:00

KEARSNEY have been the top tennis-playing school in the province for the past decade and has been ranked consistently among the top tennis schools in the country.

Clifton have been the only other school in the province to provide some challenge for Kearsney.

Kearsney’s professional coach, Jared Temlett, himself a product of Kearsney, has been honoured by Tennis South Africa by being appointed as the national coach of the under-14 and -16 boys, who will play in the African Junior Championships in Nairobi starting this week.

Led by Temlett, the SA junior team won all four titles at the Southern African Zonal event, which was held in Windhoek in January.

The main all-African event to be held on the difficult clay court surfaces in Kenya will be a challenge. The South African team will try to continue the fine form they showed in January.

Temlett was delighted to be selected coach.

“It has been such a great honour to be involved with our future national champions.

“It is such a privilege working with players of this quality and I have definitely benefited from the experience,” he said after the announcement.

He will continue to coach at Kearsney, where his coaching academy is based.
