Keep cool this summer with ‘green’ products

2014-03-29 00:00

THE buzz word in the techsphere over the past couple of years has been “green” and even manufacturers of household technology have cottoned on to the trend, and soon your air conditioner will be “greener” too.

With temperatures in KwaZulu-Natal fluctuating between hot and cold, one can never decide what kind of environment to be in.

Now a new range of air conditioners from various manufacturers cater for the desire to be warmed up when cold or cooled down when hot with a lesser impact on the environment.

Earlier this week, Samsung announced the launch of a new line of air conditioners that could be controlled using wifi devices at an event held at the Zimbali lodge in Ballito. The new triangular design helps them work faster with an energy-efficient solution. The new air conditioners feature a virus doctor to control the dust, allergens and bacteria in the air.

“They are designed to be exceptionally efficient; the unique triangular air conditioner has a wider inlet, wider outlet and a bigger fan to ensure that air is cooled or heated and expelled faster, further and wider — meaning that every corner of a room is reached,” said Michael McKechnie, of Samsung Electronics Digital Air Solutions

The products also come with a 10-year-warranty and can be controlled using most Samsung smartphones or tablets.

Also this week, vice-president of LG Electronics Ted Han announced the launch of their Inverter V air conditioners. These are able to consume 69% less energy and operate silently.
