KHARINA Secondary School has successfully defended their title in the annual National Youth Run for the fourth year in a row in a tournament that was held in Durban recently.

The school became the inaugural champions of the tournament fours years ago and has retained ever since.

The National Youth Run was established by KZN Athletics to promote sports development especially long distance running as it covers five kilometres and 10 km. The event is normally held a day before the Comrades Marathon to encourage the youth to participate in the world’s biggest race.

Dina Moodley, convenor and deputy principal of Kharina Secondary said, “We are very proud to be champions again as we have been defending this title for the last three years.”

He said they took a contingent of 379 learners to participate in the youth run. Moodley was impressed with the tremendous increase in the number of participants in this year’s event.

He said the cheque of R10 000 awarded to the school will be used for sports development, in keeping with the theme that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind.
