Killed with toilet acid

2011-02-16 00:00

A WOMAN sat and watched TV with her boyfriend’s family while waiting for him to return home, before allegedly throwing lethal toilet acid over the unsuspecting man when he finally arrived.

Port Shepstone taxi drivers and owners are shocked at the gruesome killing of their colleague, “Jacile” Vusumuzi Mfeka, who was allegedly killed when his girlfriend poured toilet acid over him on Tuesday last week in Murchison.

Lieutenant Colonel Zandra Wiid of the SAPF in Port Shepstone confirmed that Mfeka’s girlfriend has been arrested and a case of murder has been opened.

“It is alleged that on Tuesday night [Feburary 8] Mfeka arrived home in Maveshe in the Murchison area,” said Wiid. “His girlfriend then approached him in the vehicle that he was sitting in outside the house and poured a liquid over him.”

According to Wiid, Mfeka immediately jumped out of the car and ran to Murchison hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries caused by the liquid.

“It is suspected that the liquid which caused the death is acid used to clean toilets,” said Wiid. “Mfeka’s clothes will be forwarded for forensic analysis.”

Mfeka’s sister, Promise Mfeka, told The Witness that his girlfriend visited her at her brother’s house at 8.45 pm on the night of the killing, asking where Mfeka was.

Promise told her that Mfeka would be home at around 10 pm. The girlfriend then waited for him to arrive home, watching television with the family.

According to Promise, the girlfriend then went to Mfeka’s bedroom before waiting at the door to the house. “I asked her what she was doing and she said she was waiting for Vusi,” said Promise. “I heard him shouting from his car and she rushed to him and poured toilet acid all over him.”

Promise said the injuries were horrific. “The acid caused his arm to burn and melt and his chest was also very burnt,” she recalled. “All of the clothes he was wearing burnt to ashes.”

She added she had not suspected any such attack because, as they were watching television, the girlfriend displayed no signs of anger.

Mfeka’s funeral was held on Sunday and members of the taxi industry attended to show their support for their colleague.

One of Mfeka’s colleagues, who chose to remain anonymous, said the girlfiend accused Mfeka of having an affair with another woman.

Wiid confirmed the woman will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court tomorrow and will remain in police custody until then.
