Killing: Victim’s worker speaks

2008-10-29 00:00

LANGALIBALELE Street furniture dealer James Stewart (53) was shot dead after being wrestled to the floor and his wallet was taken, the Pietermaritzburg High Court heard yesterday.

He was shot in the face at about 10.30 am on Saturday, December 2, 2006, and died soon after.

One of his workers, Emmanuel Pakkies, said that the man appearing for Stewart’s murder and aggravated robbery, Jabulani Khoza (31) of Imbali, guarded him at the door of the storeroom while another wrestled Stewart to the floor and took his wallet.

Another member of the gang then shot Stewart, Pakkies said. The gang took keys from Stewart’s body, locked Pakkies and fellow workers in the room and fled.

Khoza, the only alleged member of the gang arrested, has pleaded not guilty.

The trial continues.
