A GROUP of men who were arrested two weeks ago for a murderous crime spree on the South Coast appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Charges for all the accused, aged between 17 and 26, include murder, attempted murder, assault and robbery — all of which took place in Louisiana and Mehlomnyama areas.

The Witness reported on the murder of Frederick Jorgensen (56) in Louisiana earlier this month. He was killed on November 4 after being stabbed in the chest when a gang of armed men barged into his home just after midnight.

Two days later a 50-year-old woman was stabbed in the back of the neck when she was attacked by a group of men, also in Louisiana.

On November 8 a Chinese shop in Mehlomnyama was robbed. Five occupants, including the owners, were assaulted.

On the same night two men in their 20s were shot at a residence in Louisiana. One died and the other was taken to hospital. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to the face.

Khulekani Xolo Makhaula (23) appeared for the murder of Frederick Jorgensen and for robbing the Chinese shop in Mehlomnyama. Sipho Msa€ ni (26) also appeared in connection with the Jorgensen murder and the possession of firearms and ammunition.

Mabuti Zwelenkomo (25) is charged with the Jorgensen murder, the Mehlomnyama robbery and the murder and attempted murder in Louisiana on November 8. A charge of possession of firearms and ammunition was added. He was allegedly found with unlicensed pistols.

Mandla Madlala (26) was charged with the Jorgensen murder and the Mehlomnyama robbery as well as two couunts of possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

He was also charged with two cases of house robbery in Southport on October 31, where two women were robbed in their homes that night.

Siphamandla Sindle Ndlovu (24) appeared in connection with the armed robbery of the 50-year-old woman. He was also charged with the Mehlomnyama business robbery.

Siphamandla Lushaba was charged with the Jorgensen murder and the Mehlomnyama robbery.

The men were remanded in custody until December 8 for a formal bail application.

Three juveniles, all aged 17, were also arrested in connection with the cases. One was charged with the attempted murder in Louisiana in the same case as Zwelenkomo. He is still in custody. The other two were released.
