Kings: hooker Lacombe may leave squad

2013-03-27 00:00

CAPE TOWN — French hooker Virgile Lacombe revealed that he may lea-ve the Kings after he was recalled from their overseas Super Rugby tour.

According to the SARugby website, Lacombe and Argentine loose forward Tomas Leonardi last week returned to Port Elizabeth from the Kings’ overseas tour and were replaced by Edgar Marutlulle and Devin Oosthuizen.

They were sent back after the SA Rugby Union launched an investigation into a suspected breach of its Super Rugby participation agreement by the Kings, after the Kings fielded three foreigners against the Chiefs in a Round 5 match.

As one of four foreign players in the Kings’ Super Rugby squad, Lacombe’s participation has been hampered by Saru’s ruling limiting the use of more than two foreigners in a Super Rugby match.

The 28-year-old hooker, who has yet to play for the Kings in Super Rugby, recently expressed his fru-stration on the show Plus Sport Rugby at being unable to play due to Saru’s rules. “I’m a little tired. I’ll try to get a deadline early next week whether or not the bosses can put four foreigners in a side. If they cannot, I think I’ll try to break my contract.”

The Kings face the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday.
