Kingsmead Mynahs Schools Invitation team

2014-11-13 00:00

AS is its tradition, the Kingsmead Mynahs Club selected its Kingsmead Mynahs Schools Invitation team after trials were held in November.

Trials were held at Kingsmead and St Charles and Glenwood schools, with a squad of 13 players selected, with a further three players on standby.

Organisers and selectors included Colin Chater (past president of Kingsmead Mynahs), Philip Lanz (current KZN schools selector), Dale Otto (past Mynahs president and cricket player), John Arthur (past Mynahs president and father of Mickey), Graeme Calway (current Inland KZN schools selector) and Geoff Shepstone (Mynahs committee member and selector).

All agreed that the standard was higher than last year and the aim of selecting the team is to give players omitted from the KZN Coastal and Inland U17 teams the opportunity to experience the game at a higher, more competitive level.

All players are capped at a special ceremony. Some past players who have progressed to provincial level include current Dolphins players Cameron Delport and Khaya Zondo, while David White and Keegan Eccles have played for the SA U19 team.

A full programme of matches has been drawn up for the lads, ranging from limited-overs encounters to a two-day clash against the KZN Inland U17 side at Eston.
