Kloof High are the top adventurers

2013-09-17 00:00

KLOOF High School’s U19 adventure racing team produced the goods at the KZN Adventure Racing Championships at Baynesfield earlier this month, claiming the title ahead of rivals Hillcrest High School and St Dominic’s Academy (Newcastle).

Teams consisted of four members, one having to be of the opposite sex, and had to compete in all activities, which included cycling, orienteering, hiking, abseiling, rock climbing, obstacle crossing, paintball shooting, pioneering, raft building and rafting.

Starting at 8 am, the teams had all day to finish the challenge and the final teams stumbled home at 4 pm.

It was no easy task for the teams, who had to repair their own bicycles, find their way with compasses and maps, prepare their own meals and use different problem-solving techniques.

All team members had to be together throughout the challenge, never more than 50 metres apart and Kloof’s Liam Conway (captain), Matthew Volek, Natalie Volek and Sizwe Sithole worked it all out, to plan their race to perfection, and take the accolades home for their school.
