Kloof High soccer 1st team put on a good show

2014-10-16 00:00

KLOOF High School’s soccer first team travelled to Grey College (Bloemfontein) in the holidays to take part in the Grey College soccer tournament.

They returned as runners-up, making the final only to lose to Brebner High School who looked clinical in a 4-0 win.

It was a stout effort from Kloof High, who had enjoyed a decent school soccer season with the highlights being a draw against DHS and wins against Pinetown Boys’ High and fierce rivals Hillcrest High School.

At the festival, Kloof progressed to the quarter-finals, where they met Jeppe High, emerging with a confidence-boosting 1-0 win, which meant a showdown in the semis against Louis Botha.

This was a tense affair as both sides were determined to reach the final. It came down to penalties, with Kloof sneaking through 4-3.

Although they lost to Brebner, second was nothing to be scoffed at.

All the players in the team received silver medals and Brian Khuzwayo was named Striker of the Tournament.

His prize was a trophy, spanking new Adidas soccer boots and a voucher.
