Kranskop residents get police station on wheels

2012-07-05 00:00

PEOPLE in Kranskop who want to report crime will no longer have to travel to Greytown.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni launched a mobile community service centre (CSC) in the rural area on Tuesday.

Ngobeni urged the community to use the facility, saying it was an initiative to enhance service delivery in the Kranskop policing precinct.

“This facility will be offering the basic services that include certifying documents, reporting criminal cases, signing of affidavits by a commissioner of oaths and reporting of motor vehicle accidents or any other matter that deserves police attention,” she said.

The facility will operate from 7 am to 7 pm every day, making scheduled stops in specific areas on certain days. A 4X4 vehicle will be made available to serve areas difficult to access. The acting chief of Makhabeleni area, Thandazani Dlomo, said: “This will help our community to report matters to the police faster and we expect the police to act quickly, unlike when we used to have to travel long distances to Greytown.”
