Krol unlikely to be new Downs coach

JOHANNESBURG — Trott Moloto says Mamelodi Sundowns will hire a coach who best fits in with their style of play after interviewing a number of candidates.

A number of names have been linked with the job, which was made vacant by the sacking of Antonio Lopez Habas.

Former Orlando Pirates boss Ruud Krol is one of the men in contention, but in light of Moloto’s recent comments it is unlikely he will be the coach to take over from Ian Gorowa, who has been acting as caretaker boss in the interim.

Johan Neeskens, the former Barcelona and present Galatasaray assistant manager to Frank Rijkaard, is reportedly leading a shortlist that also bears the name of Mozambique national team coach Mart Nooij.

Sundowns team manager Moloto said: “A couple of guys have been called in to share their philosophy. They have been interviewed and the one that succeeds is the one that will satisfy the criteria of what we’re looking for.

“We are looking for someone who is going to continue with the culture of football that is played at Sundowns. That has to be maintained and the person who gets the job must not interfere with our style.

“I’m not going to mention the number. He could be a local or someone from outside.”
