Kuswag win at Vories festival

2011-03-29 00:00

THE 20th annual Sports Festival at Voortrekker included girls’ hockey and netball, and both areas attracted good support.

The 16 hockey teams were divided into four pools with the winners of each pool playing in the semi-finals. In the first semi, Kokstad beat Empangeni 3-0. In the second semi, Dundee had a more difficult game winning by a lone goal against Port Natal.

The final was also a close-fought affair and here Kokstad, after losing in the semis last year, managed to beat Dundee 1-0 to take the trophy.

Netball also had four pools of four teams each, but here quarter-finals were played between sides winning pools and the second-placed teams. Both Voortrekker and Pionier, who had come second in their pools, won their quarter-final against Dundee and Port Natal, respectively.

The other two winners in the quarters were Richardsbaai, who beat Ladysmith, and Kuswag, who won against Empangeni.

In the semi-finals, Pionier beat Voortrekker 11-6 and Kuswag had a narrow 11-9 win against Richardsbaai.

The final was a relatively easy win for Kuswag who beat Pionier 21-8.
