LEntjies and Sosibo to join United for Celtic match in Bloemfontein

WITH the MTN8 and international fixtures combining to momentarily halt the PSL after just three rounds, Maritzburg United have been preparing for their next fixture — a daunting trip to the Free State where they will take on Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night.

United coach Ian Palmer has guided his side to an impressive start to the league season. Draws at home to Bidvest Wits and away to Ajax Cape Town were followed by an exciting victory over Orlando Pirates at Harry Gwala Stadium that saw the Team of Choice overturn a one-goal deficit at half-time to run out 2-1 winners.

The start to the season has left United undefeated and in eighth place on the log, and club chairperson Farouk Kadodia hinted yesterday that a point away from home against Celtic would not be a bad result for his side.

“We like to work in groups of five games, so if we can get a draw or a win against Celtic and then come back for our KZN derby against Arrows then we will be in a good position,” he said.

Captain Fadlu Davids is set to miss the trip to Bloemfontein as well as next Sunday’s home game against Golden Arrows as he recovers from a fractured cheekbone he suffered during the Pirates game.

Good news for United is that livewire midfielder Kurt Lentjies has fully recovered from his toe injury and is expected to make the trip to Bloemfontein. Midfielder Calvin Sosibo is also available after resolving his registration issues.

United are aiming to finish the season in the top half of the table for the first time in their history, and are undefeated in their last seven league games under Palmer.
