Latin sounds at the MMC

2010-04-30 00:00

NEXT Tuesday Pan Latino is at the Maritzburg Musicians Club performing its eclectic mix of Latin and African music. The music starts at 8 pm and entrance is R20. Pan Latino is supported by Peter Tennant.

Peter Tennant, recently retired associate professor of classics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg campus, has maintained a keen interest in classical guitar since leaving school, and is particularly interested in the Spanish and South American repertoires. He will be playing a selection of pieces from these countries. Tennant is also a keen runner and will be completing (hopefully) his 12th Comrades Marathon this year.

If you are a lover of Latin and African rhythm, then you will be invigorated by the sounds of Pan Latino. The band was formed in 2007 by Bolivian-born Kéch Sánchez (vocals, charango, guitar and pan pipes) who has lived and performed in South America, Europe and South Africa. The other musicians are John Bossé (bass), Daniël Rossouw (lead guitar) and Chris Melling (percussion), all from Howick.

Their music incorporates different influences, mixing them into the band’s distinctive style with a strong Latin influence.

Pan Latino released its first album called Gondwanaland last year.
