Lawyer allegedly threatened

2014-10-14 00:00

A PIETERMARITZBURG lawyer yesterday charged a father and two of his sons with intimidation for allegedly threatening to “chop off his head”.

The charge was laid by attorney Nasen Naicker against the trio following an incident that allegedly occurred at the regional court yesterday.

The accused can only be named once they appear in court, which they are expected to do today.

Naicker was at court yesterday for the anticipated judgment in a case in which a Pietermaritzburg man, Govindsamy Moodley, and his three sons, Roland, Damien and Darrol, are charged with attacking Naicker after luring him to their Bangalore Road home on a pretext on December 26, 2011.

On that occasion Naicker was allegedly struck on his head, face and ear with a bush knife and other weapons.

He testified that he survived by “pushing” his way out of the house and fleeing the scene leaving behind his sandals, a receipt book and motor car.

The accused all pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder charge facing them in that case.

The matter was yesterday postponed until October 27 for judgment because the defence lawyer was ill.

Naicker told The Witness that while he was at court yesterday he was allegedly threatened by three men.

“They said they will chop my head off … I went to the police and they were arrested, they will appear in court [today],” he said.
