Leaders reflect on 2011

2011-12-24 00:00

Sizwe Mchunu (DA Provincial Leader)

It has been a difficult and challenging year. There were local government elections to start with and now as the year ends we are witnessing an increased number of accidents on our roads. In wishing fellow citizens in the province a wonderful Christmas, I want to also call on everyone to be responsible during this festive season. Let us all make an effort to be more careful on our roads and more caring of each other.

Zanele Magwaza-Msibi (leader, New Freedom Party (NFP))

2011 was a tumultuous year for me personally. It started on January 17 when I lost my court case challenging the IFP to hold its elective conference. This was a day that changed everything and led to the decision to form a new party.

Despite it being weeks before the local government we fared well, being the party with the fourth highest number of votes nationally and third highest in KwaZulu-Natal. Since then we have seen support for the party growing nationally.

I want to thank the people of South Africa for their support and trust in me. I will always feel indebted to you and wish you a happy Christmas. I hope that 2012 will be a better year for all of us. Keep safe on the roads and give what you can to those less fortunate than yourselves.
