Lecturer death: 5 in court

2013-08-30 00:00

FIVE men, including a mechanic, appeared in the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of FET lecturer Sandile Bambiso and the theft of his car.

Mechanic Deon Mathenjwa, Thulani Gumede and Mthobisi Msimang appeared in connection with the theft of Bambiso’s VW Polo that was recovered at Mathenjwa’s workshop in Hillcrest.

It is alleged that Gumede and Msimang took the car to Mathenjwa as it had mechanical problems.

Bambiso, who was an electrical engineering lecturer at the Appelsbosch campus, was reported missing in July. His decomposed and burnt body was found next to the road in the Mkhizwana area near Camperdown on August 6.

Ayanda Ndlovu and Thembelani Gwala also appeared for the murder and theft of the motor vehicle.

Bambiso’s friend and house-mate Sthembiso Mdluli, who was in court yesterday, said he was there to find out why he was killed.

“I want to know why they did this as he was a good person. I want to see justice in this case,” said Mdluli.

The accused will appear in court again on September 5 for an opposed bail application.
