‘Life-changing’ tour to Poland for boys from Sinamuva Primary

2012-09-24 00:00

THE Under-12 football team of Sinamuva Primary School in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, returned home from Poland recently.

The boys represented SA against 40 countries after winning the local leg of the Danone Nations Cup, which took place in Poland from September 3-11.

Their main fear before their departure was flying for the first time.

But once in the air the boys got used to the flight. In Poland their most challenging experience was getting used to the Polish food.

Coach Sbongiseni Falithenjwa and his assistant, Mpumelelo Zikhali, said the strange diet affected their game.

Zikhali said the team had behaved very well and did SA proud.

“We would definitely take another opportunity like this if it came. It is good to see a school like Sinamuva achieve such greatness,” coach Falithenjwa said.

The team played six games, lost four and won two. They played against Turkey, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

“To get the opportunity to go to Poland really changed all our lives,” coach Falithenjwa added.

“You cannot go overseas and still be the same. It was a great exposure for our school.”

The team was sponsored by the South African Schools Football Association, Danone, 033Life Style, Imbali Taxi Association and uMgungundlovu and Msunduzi municipalities.
