Little girl still in serious condition after pool rescue

2014-02-18 00:00

A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl who almost drowned over the weekend was in hospital yesterday and doing much better according to paramedics.

On Sunday afternoon, the girl was in a serious condition after a near drowning incident at an Umbilo home.

Garrith Jamieson said that the child’s condition was improving.

“She’s definitely doing much better than she was ... but she is still in the King Edward Hospital,” Jamieson said.

Rescue Care paramedics raced to the Umbilo home just after 4 pm on Sunday after receiving a frantic call from the Glenmore Community Police Forum.

Advanced Life Support paramedics arrived to find the little girl in a serious condition.

Fortunately, a passing security guard and the Glenmore Community Policing Forum had stopped to help and performed CPR, which saved the little girl’s life.

Paramedics stabilised her before rushing her to a nearby hospital for further care, Jamieson said.

“Rescue Care paramedics urge parents to please keep a eye on your children around the pool.

“Pool safety is of utmost importance and all pools should have a safety net or fencing that is high enough so children cannot gain entrance,” Jamieson said.
