Local ‘Idol’ opening act for superstar

2010-02-27 00:00

SOUTH African Idols winner Jason Hartman will open for American pop superstar, Kelly Clarkson — herself an American Idol winner — at Durban’s ICC Arena on Sunday, March 14.

The singer’s All I Ever Wanted tour kicked off in Dublin, Ireland on February 5 and continues through March and April, visiting the UK, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Denmark, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.

Clarkson, who shot to fame after winning American Idol, has sold more than 20 million albums since her 2002 debut.

Locally, she has had three number ones on 5FM’s Top 40 chart, and fans can expect to hear all the hits from the tour’s namesake album, along with her signature pop anthems such as Since You’ve Been Gone and Because of You.

Twenty-nine-year-old Hartman, who was named the co-winner of last year’s Idols, said he is extremely excited to support Clarkson.

“It’s a great honour to be given this opportunity. I think that Kelly is a phenomenal performer and I’m really looking forward to touring with her on her first visit to our beautiful country South Africa,” said Hartman.

He will be performing tracks from his debut album, On The Run.

Ticket prices range from R221 to R324, and bookings can be make through Computicket.
