Local coach trips to see JHB shows

2008-03-13 00:00

SCOTTS Tours have arranged special coach trips from Pietermaritzburg to Johannesburg to see two shows, Chess and Swan Lake on Ice, at the Teatro at Montecasino. Neither show will be touring, so those wanting to see them will have to travel to Gauteng.

A limited number of seats are still available at R1 375, which includes accommodation for the night and a buffet breakfast. For Chess, the departure date is March 29, and for Swan Lake it is April 5.

Swan Lake opened on March 6 and runs until April 6. Olga Sharutenko, star of the recent TV show Dancing On Ice plays the role of Odette, leading a 25-strong cast of Olympic, World, European and National Championship skaters, who between them have won over 200 competition medals.

Chess, the musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson, both formerly of Abba, opens on March 22 and ends on April 25.

The story involves a romantic triangle between two players in a world chess championship, and a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Two of the numbers from Chess became worldwide hits — One Night in Bangkok and I Know Him So Well.

• Two lucky Witness readers who book the tours will each get the cost of one seat refunded.
