2013-09-26 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG hip-hop group Badmood are on the rise and placing the city on the hip-hop map. The latest kudos received by the trio of University of KwaZulu-Natal students is nomination in two categories in the KZN Hip-Hop Awards due to take place on Saturday.

The trio have been nominated in the categories of Rap Crew of the Year and Video of the Year. However, in order to win they will need fellow ’Maritzburgers to vote for them. To vote for Badmood in these categories visit: http://oma2013.com/-voting

The group made their international debut earlier this year when their locally-produced music video landed a spot on MTV Base Africa. The programme has a viewership of 48,5 million across 48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The trio, Nangipha “Fzilla” Mnandi (21), Senzo “Matic” Makhaye (22) and Sbongiseni “Blayzito” Ndlela (22), started rapping while they were in high school.

The group stuck together and stuck with their music. They have been performing in and around the city and their dream is to become full-time hip-hop performers.

Mnandi urged Pietermaritzburg to vote for them “as we continue to represent the city and inspire the youth”.

The KZN Hip-Hop event takes place at the Durban City Hall starting at 4 pm on Saturday, and tickets are available from Computicket at R50. For more information on voting for the group see Badmood Click on Facebook or go to @badmood033 on Twitter or call 082 727 5742.
