GETTING the chance to be a television presenter is a dream come true for 24-year-old Umlazi-born and bred in Bellair songstress, Tamasha Gambushe, also known as Tamarsha.

She was named the overall winner of SABC1’s Black Carpet Presenter Search, following a 16-day audition process hosted by Selimathunzi and Metro FM.

“The audition process has been a great experience for me,” she said. “I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was able to meet new people and I have learnt much. It is a great opportunity for me that I’m immensely grateful for and honoured to be a part of.”

Thousands of hopefuls responded to the call to enter the contest, from which 120 wannabes were invited to the second leg of the auditions process at the BAT Centre in Durban earlier this month.

Dichaba Phalatse, SABC1’s portfolio marketing manager for entertainment, said: “Tamarsha won out of online entries exceeding 4 000, and auditions held for over 100 shortlisted candidates. The process was not easy and between SABC1, Metro FM and Ukhozi FM, we are confident South Africa will fall in love with Tamarsha the way we have.”

Gambushe — whose prize included a five-day course in presenting — will now co-host this year’s Black Carpet at the Metro Music Awards at Durban’s ICC on Saturday, March 1, alongside Zizo Beda, Sinazo Yolwa and Amanda du-Pont.

She will also get the chance to present inserts for Selimathunzi.
