Lots of Umhlanga festive fun

PRO surfers from across the country will show their skill when the Umhlanga Summer Festival heralds in their festive season with the Lizzard Hurricane Surf Pro on December 13 and 14.

Hosted by Umhlanga’s Wave Wizards Surf Club in association with KZN Surfing Association, the event sees young novices aged five and up surfing with their fathers in the “Ballie’s Division”, among others. Short and long boarders will take part.

The rest of the holiday programme promises to be equally exciting. Beach lovers of all ages will be treated to a host of great free entertainment including volleyball, beach Olympics, dancing, games, Miss/Mr Umhlanga, soccer, face painting and tug-of-war.

• Sunday, December 14, will also see the Jockey Trail Run/Walk which will start and finish on the Millennium Stage at Umhlanga Main Beach. Trail enthusiasts will have the options of five kilometres, 12 km or 18 km to choose from. To register visit www.roag.co.za.

• Spar Umhlanga will be hosting a couple of days of packed beach entertainment and the Ocean Heroes Surf Ironman Series will be present on many of the afternoons.

• On Thursday, December 18 at 6.30 pm, at Umhlanga Village Shelly McClain and her choir will lead Carols by Candlelight. Visitors are encouraged to bring a gift for underprivileged children.
