Lots of colour and variety for visitors this weekend

2010-10-22 00:00

THERE are several new gardens to visit in Pietermaritzburg and the midlands this weekend, including the Dousts’ garden in Lincoln Meade with its beautiful ponds and waterways and Howick, where you can enjoy stunning views from the Wimbush garden.

The Wimbush garden is the product of a massive effort. The property is situated on a dam and has two small islands that have had bridges built to them. The islands have been lovingly planted and the garden is known for its beautiful roses and walkways.

The Arnot’s garden in the Cedara district is also open. It is choc-full of annuals and bright colours.

Other gardens open this weekend are those of Dave and Jenny Howells in the Richmond area, with its nursery where you can enjoy a light lunch of tea, and Baynes House garden in Baynefield where picnickers are welcome.

For a full listing of the Open Gardens, call in at your nearest garden centre for a catalogue. Otherwise you can log on to www.witness.co.za, or contact Gail at 083 445 2577 or e-mail her at gail@spottedowl.co.za
